- Practical Test Including Manoeuvres
DSA Driving Test Documents
Documentation you must bring to the test:
- Driving licence (both photo card and counterfoil parts †)
- Driving test booking confirmation letter
- Theory test pass certificate
Note: † If you do not have a photo card driving licence, you will need to bring another form of identification such as a passport. ### See the DSA website for acceptable forms of ID. ###
DSA Eye Test
Your practical driving test will start with an ### eyesight check###. If your
eyesight is not satisfactory, you will not be permitted to continue with the
test.
Show Me, Tell Me
Candidates will be asked some vehicle safety questions. These are basic vehicle
checks that a driver should carry out to ensure the vehicle is safe for use.
Some checks may involve you opening the bonnet to specify where and how to check
the fluid levels.
DSA Practical Test
During the practical driving test the examiner will give you directions which
you should try to follow. For example, if you inadvertently take the wrong
route, you will not be penalised if you performed the manoeuvre safely. The most
important aspect of the test is driver safety. Test routes are designed to be as
uniform as possible and include a range of typical road and traffic conditions.
The examiner will ask you to carry out set exercises along the way.
You should drive in the way your instructor has taught you. The examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving. If you make a mistake make sure you state clearly the fault to the examiner. Do not worry. Most driving faults are less serious than you might think and may not affect your result.
If at any time your examiner considers you to be a danger to other road users your test will be stopped.
You can take someone with you on the test; this person must be over 16 years old and cannot take any part in the test.
After the Practical Test
On completion of the driving test, the examiner will give you your result.
You can ask your examiner for feedback to explain your performance during the
test.
