Before You Start
Before you start your driving instructor training course certain criteria have
to be met.
To become a driving instructor you will need:
- A full UK or EU car driving license held continuously for at least four years prior to application
- Have less than 6 penalty points on your licence
- Read a normal size number plate from 27.5 metres (90 ft)
The CRB Check
Applicants who intend to start the ADI qualifying process will need to
have a criminal record check. This is obtained free of charge through Capita
Recruitment on behalf of the Driving Standards Agency (DSA). Capita will ask you
five simple questions to ensure you have no serious convictions and your driving
licence is in order.
If everything is in order an application pack will be sent out for you to complete and return. You will receive a unique reference number which is required when you apply for the first exam. You can proceed with the course once you know the application is on its way.
